(Gr. technetos, artificial) Discovered by Perrier and Segre in Italy in 1937. Technetium is the first element to be produced artificially. It was produced by bombarding molybdenum with deuterons in the Berkeley cyclotron (particle accelerator). Has not been found on earth, but it has been detected in certain types of stars.
